9 of the Fastest Private Jets You Can Buy (#1 is Surprising)

9 of the Fastest Private Jets You Can Buy (#1 is Surprising)

The world has come very far in the way of travel. Ever since the first plane was developed, it has been impossible to get people out of the sky.

The majority of people travel through passenger jets but if you have the money, then private jets are the way to go. They are known for being luxurious and only accommodating a small number of passengers.

Because of the limited seating, it is not the best use of money for large airlines to purchase and use for the public, which is why these are used privately and usually by the rich and famous. While these private jets are expensive, they can also be very fast, just like any other jet, and sometimes faster.

If you like speed, then take a look at our list of the 9 fastest private jets in the world. If you do not have the money for your own and ever find the chance to ride in one, we suggest you get on for the ride of your life.

To put the following speeds into perspective, commercial passenger jets fly at 545 to 575 miles per hour which slower than several of the fastest private jets.

9. Aerion AS2 – Mach 1.6 (1,217 Miles per Hour)

Check this sucker out:

While this private jet is not yet available, it will be quite impressive once it hits the market in a few years. Because of the claims for maximum speed, we have decided to include it on our list. According to the company, it will have a max speed Mach of 1.6 (1,217 miles per hour).  You know it’s fast when mach is used as a measurement.

It is expected to be released in 2009 and will almost double the top speed of the current number one spot on our list. With a top speed like that, it will be able to travel from London to New York in less than three hours. It will be able to accommodate up to 12 passengers. Because of US laws that prohibit supersonic flight over the country, it will have to go about 754 miles per hour once it crossed the border but over seas, it will be a different tale.

The price for this jet is expected to be around $100 million.

8. Cessna Citation CJ3 – 478 Miles per Hour

The interior of the private jet is also very noteworthy because it is one of the most luxurious. It also has large windows which increase the natural light inside by almost 40% when compared to a traditional aircraft.

It also has a private stateroom, private lavatory, and shower inside.

6. Dassault Falcon 900EX – 662 Miles per Hour

It was designed in the Gulfstream vision which has been traditionally impressive. For quite some time, it was the fastest aircraft that Gulfstream had in the private jet family. In the most recent editions, however, the G-650 has it beat but this is still a very impressive aircraft. The aircraft can be purchased from between $55 million to $57 million.

4. Bombardier Global 5000 – 677 Miles per Hour

Bombardier Global 5000

1. Cessna Citation X – 711 Miles per Hour

Cessna Citation X

When putting this list together, I was surprised Cessna even made the list, let alone is the fastest. When I think of Cessna, I think small single prop plane I see booting around small airports.  I don’t think “fastest private jet on the market”.

The Cessnsa Citation X private jet is the fastest private jet available on the market today. It is also the fastest available to the general public. It has a max speed Mach of .935 and tops out at 711 miles per hour. At that speed, it is no wonder that the jet can fly from coast to coast in less than 5 hours.

It is a smaller jet, though, only seating 8 passengers. However, if you want to get somewhere fast and you have 8 or fewer people traveling, then this speed machine is the right option for you.

It costs between $20.6 million and $21.5 million and can travel up to 5,686 kilometers. It has a service ceiling of 51,000 feet and can climb to that height at a rate of 3,650 fpm. It has a few Rolls Royce engines as well as Honeywell Primus 2000 autopilot avionics.
